The Historic Sanctuary was built in 1888. The cost of the building was $788.45. At the time, the Church was known as Spring Creek Methodist Episcopal Church. After the sanctuary was opened, an offering was taken for a bell. The bell was purchased at a cost of $53.30, plus the cost of a rope. The same bell rings today to welcome worshippers to service.
In 1894, the name of the congregation was changed to Rose Hill Methodist Episcopal Church. Services were held every other week as the membership was still low. Services were conducted in German until the 1930's, and some Sunday School classes continued in German into the 1950's.
In 1947, the trustees decided to build a Fellowship Hall to accommodate a meeting area, classrooms, a restroom, and a kitchen. In 1956, additional classrooms were built. Finally in 1958, the church received its first full-time minister.
The historic Sanctuary is used for weddings and other special services throughout the year. If you would like to hold a special event in the Historic Sanctuary, contact the Church Office at (281) 351-5356. |
